We describe the case of a 24-year-old female patient with a previous history of cardiac murmur, and who was submitted to echocardiographic probe. We performed a multiplane transesophageal bidimensional echocardiography (fig. 1), and with base on the bidimensional images we performed the three-dimensional transesophageal reconstruction

Inadvertent Diversion of Inferior Vena Cava to Left Atrium after Repair of Atrial Septal Defect – Early Diagnosis and Correction of Error: Role of Intraoperative Transesophageal Echocardiography

481 The Editor, Iatrogenic diversion of inferior vena cava (IVC) to left atrium had been reported many times.[1‐8] In few reported cases, this complication was detected years after surgery.[2] Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is instrumental in timely diagnosis of such surgical errors and helps in immediate correction of such complication.[3] We describe a case of ostium secundum atrial s...

Usefulness of transesophageal echocardiography for transcatheter closure of ostium secundum atrial septum defect with the amplatzer septal occluder.

BACKGROUND Transcatheter closure of ostium secundum atrial septum defect (ASDII) using the new self-centering occluder, Amplatzer Septal Occluder (ASO), has been well developed in recent years. We describe the importance and role of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in the selection and closure of such defects. METHODS Thirty patients referred for transcatheter closure of ASDII by ASO we...

Live/Real Time Three-Dimensional Trans Esophageal Echocardiographic Findings in Amplatzer ASD Closure Devices in Adults

Six female patients aged from 19 to 73 years, with ostium secundum atrial septal defect underwent closure procedure with Amplatzer septal occluder device. Three-dimensional Echocardiography (3D-TEE) was done during the procedure or one day after the procedure. 3D-TEE provides incremental value over Two- dimensional trans-esophageal echocardiography in measuring Amplatzer septal occluder disc si...

Successful percutaneous closure of a residual atrial septal defect due to device failure.

A 39-year-old woman underwent uneventful percutaneous occlusion of an ostium secundum atrial septal defect (ASD) with a 22 mm Ultrasept ASD Occluder®. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) performed two years after implantation revealed a de novo residual left-to-right shunt through the correctly implanted device. Three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (3D TEE) further clarified th...

Three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography for secundum atrial septal defects with a large eustachian valve.

A9-year-old girl underwent transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) to determine whether there was an indication for transcatheter closure of her secundum atrial septal defect (ASD). She had been diagnosed as having a single defect by transthoracic echocardiography at 6 months of age. During previous clinic visits, her parents often complained that she had occasional episodes of central cyanosis,...
